Dr Amy Freakes is a family GP practicing in Mouille Point.
I spent my early years in Durban before moving to Cape Town to pursue my medical career. After completing an MBChB at the University of Cape Town and thereafter, an internship at the Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex, I threw myself into emergency medicine, spending my community service in a busy Johannesburg ER. I completed my Diploma in Primary Emergency Care in 2018, and was based in the emergency department at Cape Town Mediclinic from 2019 to 2021. Although I enjoyed the excitement and constant challenge of emergency medicine, I felt drawn to interacting with patients in an environment which allows time, warmth, deep connections and the privilege of growing with individuals and families.
I believe in a holistic approach to primary health care, with a focus on preventative medicine. I am also passionate about leveraging technology to monitor and optimise both acute and chronic conditions. I aim to involve patients in their health, empower them with access to information and serve as a partner on their journey toward their healthiest, best life.
